Marcos Di Paolo was born in June 1974 in the city of Mendoza, Argentina. When he was 7 years old, he began studying the guitar and the Argentinean rhythms of Folkloric music and Tango.

When he was 10, he met Pedro Alcaraz, the teacher who defined his guitar technique and musical grounding.  After that period, during high school, he was influenced by the artists of the local scene of Mendoza. He began his professional career at the age of 17, playing with several projects in his hometown.

Later, at the age of 19, he began his Bachelor in Musical Theory, with Guitar Interpretation as the main subject, at the Music school, in the Art Department of the National University of Cuyo under the guidance of Cristina Cuitiño . At the same time he met one of Pedro Alcaraz’s first pupils, Tito Francia, who by then had already a very meaningful career, and took Marcos as his student. This period was more than interesting: he was acquiring in the University all the knowledge about the theoretical subjects and the classical technique with Cristina Cuitiño, while at the same time he was discovering with Tito Francia the secrets of the harmony applied specifically to the guitar, together with all his background and experience in the Argentinian popular music, both Folklore and Tango.

Just at this point he start feeling attracted by musicians like Bill Frisell, Egberto Gismonti, Pat Metheny, influences which became even more significant listening to artists of the present time like Nelson Veras and Tord Gustavsen, Keith Jarrett among others. This began a new process of conception of the Argentinean and South American popular music.

At the beginning of his University studies he was asked by the University to travel to México D.F. to represent this institution with popular repertoire from Argentina in the Mexican University U.N.A.M.

He played in the 90’s with many popular artist from Mendoza and the rest of the country, including Chacho Echenique (Dúo Salteño), Oscar Puebla, Tilín Orozco and Fernando Barrientos, Fernando Garro, Alejandro Rotta and Victor Hugo Cortés, sharing stages across the whole country with artist like Laura Albarracín, Juan Quintero, “Zamba” Quipildor, “María de los Ángeles Ledesma y Cosecha de Agosto”, Pica Juarez, Lucho Hoyos and Luna Monti, among others. Marcos was invited several times to play in the prestigious festival “Guitarras del Mundo” where he shared the stage with guitar players of the stature of Guinga (Brasil), Quique Sinesi, Juan Falú, the Venezuelan “Cuatro” player Cheo Hurtado (Gurrufío Ensemble), from Italy Stefano Raponi and Marco Meloni, and from Chili Jorge Sauvalle, among others.

In 2002, he had the opportunity to travel to Rotterdam, Netherlands, where he lives nowadays. Since he arrived and made contact with the local scene of The Netherlands, he met the Uruguayan singer Mabel Gonzalez, recording in her 2nd CD “Contame una historia”. Also, together with Hernán Ruiz, Santiago Cimadevilla and Orlando Miño he joined the Tango ensemble “Los Taitas” and together with María José Ortiz, Martijn van der Linden, Daniel Lehmann, Mark Wyman and Santiago Cimadevilla the Tango Quintet “Racing Club”, recording in 2006 the band’s 1st CD “El Aguante”. Marcos also plays with Juan Carlos Tajes, Jacqueline Castro (on her CD “Joyas 3”), and Beatriz Aguiar.

Today he's developing a new project where he translates all the musical experiences of the last few years into his own compositions, either solo or in a guitar trio. He is also developing, together with Santiago Cimadevilla, a new project in a Tango Duo setup.
